The bronze life size polar bear stands upon rocks in a walking posture. Its fur is exceptionally dense, and the bear’s facial expression carries a hint of laziness. Its eyes are slightly squinted, with a black nose. The body and neck are elongated, suggesting immense size when standing upright.
The overall fur of the polar bear exhibits a blend of brown and white, characterized by a natural and exquisite gradient. The contrast and transition between these colors appear seamlessly integrated, adding to the sculpture’s lifelike quality.
The life-sized bronze bear sculpture created by Wyoming sculptor Margie Torrey is situated along a pathway at the National Wildlife Art Museum. Torrey’s work reflects the meticulous observation of polar bears in their natural habitat, a result of her extensive research and study. She visited the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to study polar bear skulls, gaining insights into their anatomy.
Prior to casting the bronze polar bear, Torrey participated in a seminar led by leading polar bear researchers from around the world. Consequently, this wildlife sculpture authentically captures the appearance of the polar bear. Its presence along the museum’s trail invites viewers to appreciate the bear’s majestic form and Torrey’s dedication to representing this iconic Arctic species.
Our skilled artists excel in using the patina coloring method to enhance our sculptures. To achieve this, our artists carefully prepare a chemical solution that closely matches the desired color tone. This solution is then applied to the bronze surface. Through the processes of oxidation and controlled heating, chemical reactions occur, resulting in the development of a durable and lasting coloration on the sculpture.
