YouFine Art Bronze Foundry is honored to be entrusted with the creation of a bronze military statue for General Claire Lee Chennault of the United States Army Air Forces. This military bronze sculpture is dedicated to commemorating General Chennault’s 130th birth anniversary and expressing gratitude for the outstanding contributions of the Flying Tigers during the Second Sino-Japanese War in support of the Chinese people. It also serves to strengthen the friendship between the people of China and the United States.
Commemorative significance of Chennault Statue:
The city government of Commerce City, Texas, and the local Chinese community have jointly decided to establish a World War II memorial park in the heart of Commerce City, General Chennault’s birthplace. The bronze statue of General Chennault, measuring 1.83 meters (6 feet) in height, will serve as the centerpiece of the memorial park, with a granite base standing at approximately 1 meter (about 3 feet) tall. The bronze sculpture will be crafted by Chinese artisans as a heartfelt donation to the project.
The granite bases for other facilities and statues within the memorial park will be constructed under the responsibility of the city government. The unveiling of General Chennault’s bronze statue is scheduled for September 6, 2023, to commemorate the 130th anniversary of his birth. This significant event will mark the culmination of the collaborative effort to honor his memory and celebrate the enduring friendship between the Chinese and American people.
This initiative not only pays tribute to a distinguished military leader but also symbolizes the enduring friendship and shared history between the people of China and the United States. General Chennault’s legacy and the contribution of the Flying Tigers are set to be immortalized in bronze, serving as a poignant reminder of the bonds that unite our nations.
Bronze Sculpture of General Chennault Detail:
This bronze military sculpture of General Chennault captures his commanding presence with a resolute and unwavering gaze, portraying his unwavering determination as if he were still facing off against the Japanese fascists in battle. The bronze sculpture of General Chennault vividly conveys the resilience and bravery of this valiant soldier. In his hand, he holds a telescope, meticulously scanning the frontlines to assess the enemy’s position.
The subtle upturn of his lips suggests a determination to stay well-informed about the battlefield and a wisdom in making precise judgments about the adversary’s movements. His attire proudly features the emblem of the Flying Tigers, a meticulous detail achieved through extensive research and discussions between our artists and project leaders. It’s no surprise that our bronze military sculpture of General Chennault has garnered immense praise and admiration.
Unveiling Ceremony of General Chennault Bronze Sculpture:
On October 16, 2023, a bronze military statue of General Claire Lee Chennault, funded by nearly a hundred Chinese donors, was unveiled in Commerce City, Texas. General Chennault was born in the city in 1893, and this year marks the 130th anniversary of his birth. The unveiling ceremony was attended by General Chennault’s daughter, Ms. Nell Calloway, city officials, the president of the Chennault International Flight Academy, representatives of the Flying Tigers, and donor representatives. The event was presided over by the project coordinator, Li Tian. City officials expressed their deep gratitude to the Chinese donors for their contributions.
Ms. Nell Calloway recounted the story of General Chennault and the Flying Tigers, who assisted the Chinese people in resisting Japanese invaders during the Second Sino-Japanese War. She fondly remembered the enduring friendship forged in blood between China and the United States. Li Tian, representing the donors, praised General Chennault and the Flying Tigers for their significant contributions and sacrifices in helping the Chinese people overcome Japanese aggression. He stated that General Chennault and the Flying Tigers would forever remain heroes in the hearts of the Chinese people. After the unveiling of the bronze statue, the Chinese donors paid their respects to General Chennault by offering flowers.
Commerce City Mayor Teddy welcomed the attendees and declared the day as General Chennault Day. Following this, former Mayor Wyman, City Manager Hoddie, Economic Department Director Bonnie, and Library Researcher Bettina delivered speeches. They highly praised the efforts and contributions of the Chinese community to the prosperity of Commerce City and expressed sincere gratitude to all Chinese donors.
In her speech, Ms. Nell Calloway recounted the story of General Chennault and the Flying Tigers’ assistance to the Chinese people during the Second Sino-Japanese War, emphasizing the deep friendship formed between China and the United States through shared sacrifices. She said, “We must remember this pivotal moment in the history of both China and the United States. We stand united as brothers. We must do everything in our power to strengthen Sino-U.S. relations. We cannot say, ‘I am just one person, what can I do?’ If General Chennault had chosen to return home instead of staying to help the Chinese people, we would be living in a vastly different world today. My grandfather never accepted failure. He loved his country, but he also loved the Chinese people. He stayed in China not for fame or glory but out of compassion and love for the Chinese people, and he was willing to sacrifice his life for it.”
