It was a favorite Hercules statue of the Romans,with many examples found in the Roman palaces and gymnasiums.Carved from marble Lisopp,a Greek sculptor who lived and worked in the days of Alexander the Great.
It was named Farnese because it was discovered in the Roman Baths of Caracalla in the year 1540, when it was installed in the courtyard of the Farnezii Palace in Rome.Today it is located in the National Museum of Italy.
This is a beautiful copy of Hercules statue of Farnese Hercules, made during the great tour of the Alhambra-it is on a custom rare white marble pedestal with black veins.
Hercules statue is an enlarged copy made at the beginning of the third century.
The enlarged copy was made for the bath of Caracalla in Rome (devoted in 216 A.D.), where the statue was restored in 1546 year and is now located in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.
The newly opened statue quickly penetrated the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, grandson of Pope Paul III. Alessandro Farnese had every opportunity to create one of the greatest collections of classical sculpture, collected from the Times of antiquity.
